![]() ![]() In his book, McLuhan analyzes traditional forms of media, such as film, radio, print books, and television, but also analyzes platforms that might be considered less orthodox forms of media, such as games, houses, money, clocks, and automobiles, arguing that nearly any object with which man interacts (especially various forms of technology) shapes how he perceives the world, and, in turn how he communicates with others. In other words, meaning does not lie within the form of media itself or its content, but in the information people gather from their experience with it. Marshall McLuhan’s Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man, an acclaimed book that has become a cornerstone in media theory since its publication in 1964, examines humans’ relationships to the different types of media to which they are exposed on a daily basis, and considers how meaning is derived from one’s interactions with these various mediums. ![]() ![]() ![]() ***The following is the final term paper I wrote and submitted last week (May 3, 2017) for an undergraduate communications course titled “The Cultural Impact of Media Technology” in which the theories presented in scholar Marshall McLuhan’s Understanding Media (including some of their applications to modern-day forms of media) are discussed.*** ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I laughed reading the chapter titles in the table of contents.Ībby Angellini is a brand new cupid and she’s all excited about her first Vegas Cupid Convention. The Perfect Match, on the other hand, is light and fun and had me laughing right from the start. It’s earnest and smart, much as its main character, Jamie. McKay’s debut is a love story with a fundamental #MeToo component. Not only did I love The Perfect Match, but I also loved that it’s so different from The Delicate Things We Make. And so of course, I opened The Perfect Match with that niggling fear at the back of my mind. ![]() When I fall in love with an author’s first book, I always worry that I won’t like their second one as much. I didn’t have to miss her writing for too long, as she’s already releasing another story. 4.5⭐️ – I’ve been raving about Milena McKay’s debut novel, The Delicate Things We Make, since I read it a couple of weeks ago, and recommending it to all my friends. ![]() ![]() ![]() Needless to say, I will be getting book two quite soon. I am excited to get to know all of the other witches and see how Katie progresses with her new gift. For some reason I always feel bad for a witch who doesn’t have a trusted critter companion. I also love that the witches have animal familiars. The characters are charming and you can feel the southern atmosphere. This is sure to be a fun series filled with magic, pastries, and the occasional murder. Before long, Katie finds herself frantically trying to find who the true murderer is all the while discovering more about her family’s magical heritage. The worst part is that all eyes are looking at her uncle since he was the last person to speak to the victim. ![]() Days before the grand opening, the most cantankerous lady in Savannah is murdered right in front of the store. Now the bakery is coming along beautifully and she is sure it will be a success between her baking and her aunt’s helpful ingredient suggestions, although she does find it odd that her aunt keeps mumbling over the herbs. She has decided to partner up with her aunt and uncle and open a bakery in Savannah, Georgia.
